South Korea: latest updates on K-ETA exemption

As part of the "Visit Korea Year (2023-2024)" program, which has been in place since April 1, 2023, the Ministry of Justice is granting K-ETA exemption to travelers of various nationalities, for a defined, fixed period. Initially, this measure was due to expire on December 31, 2024. An extension has been granted by the government, until December 31, 2025.

The Visit Korea Year program

In December 2022, the Korean government defined 2023-2024 as the two years for visiting South Korea. This is an initiative launched by Tourist Officewith the aim of promoting the tourist destination worldwide. A variety of events, travel packages and promotional campaigns highlight Korean culture, with the aim of welcoming foreign visitors.

In connection with this program, the Ministry of Justice authorizes citizens of several countries to enter the country without a K-ETA electronic travel authorization.

K-ETA exemption until the end of 2025

Which travellers will benefit from this exemption? Currently, 67 nationalities can enter South Korea without a K-ETA travel document. This agreement is defined, and announced to be in force until December 31, 2025.

The official online platform allows you to register at least 72 hours before arrival: e-arrivalcard.go.kr. Paper forms will continue to be accepted until the end of 2025.
