From November 1, travellers arriving in Tanzania by air will have to pay a new tourist tax. directly integrated into the price of their plane ticket. The amount varies depending on whether you buy a one-way ticket or book a round-trip flight. This new measure comes on top of the latest decisions taken by the Tanzanian government since last June.
Mandatory air tax
As of November 01, future travelers will see an increase in the price of air tickets to Tanzania. For a one-way ticket, a supplement of 45 USD (39 €) will be required and for a round trip, you will have to pay 90 USD (78 €). No steps are required to pay this tax, as it will be included in the price of your ticket. Children under 2 years of age do not have to pay the tax.
Zanzibar: beware of compulsory medical insurance
Since 2024, Zanzibar imposes a compulsory medical insurancefor all travelers to the archipelago. The cost may vary according to age. For children, it may be free, and for teenagers it is 22 USD, 19 €) and adults (44 USD, 38 €). Applications can be made on the official website of the authorities visitzanzibar.go.tz/.
Tanzania's airlines blacklisted by the European Union
Last June, the European Union updated the Air Safety List (ASL)which lists all airlines that fail to comply with international safety standards. 35 airlines have been added to the list, and are not allowed to fly in European airspace.
No longer possible to pay in foreign currency
The Tanzanian government had also announced that payments could only be made in Tanzanian schilling (TZS). Foreign currency is no longer accepted and remains banned in Tanzania.
