The Direction Générale de la Migration (DGM) has announced the extension of a measure eagerly awaited by international travelers and tourism professionals. More flexible entry rules, which exempts certain tourists from the «six-month validity» rule, has been extended for a further year.
Effective December 1
According to the official communiqué, this provision came into force on December 1, 2025 and will remain valid until December 31, 2026.
In concrete terms, this means that tourists no longer need to present a passport valid for at least six months after their date of entry. From now on, the passport remains valid for the duration of the stay and upon departure from Dominican territory.
Who's concerned?
This facility does not apply to all travelers. The DGM has specifically listed the nationalities benefiting from this exemption. These are :
-From the’European Union (France, Belgium, Germany, etc.)
-From UNITED STATES
-From Canada
-From United Kingdom
-From Brazilfrom Chile, the’Argentinathe Colombia and theEcuador.
The measure also extends to nationals of other countries, provided they have a valid visa or residence permit to enter the USA, Canada, the UK or the Schengen area.
«Breaking down barriers»
This decision is in line with resolution no. DGM-01-2024. For the Dominican authorities, the objective is clear: to support the tourism dynamic while removing the administrative constraints of entry formalities that could discourage visitors.
With this measure, the DGM reaffirms the Dominican government's commitment to promoting international tourism and simplifying immigration procedures. This measure will be in force for one year, from December 1, 2025 to December 31, 2026.

Important reminder: the E-Ticket
While the passport expiry date requirement has been lifted, other formalities remain unchanged. Travellers must still complete the electronic entry/exit form (E-Ticket) via the official migration portal before their trip.
