THE March 1, 2024Following a meeting between the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Fariz Rzayev, and his Albanian counterpart Besart Kadia, an agreement was signed to end the visa regime between Azerbaijan and Albania. The agreement stipulates that ordinary passport holders from both countries will no longer need a visa to travel between them.
This breakthrough in relations between the two countries is the result of many years of dialogue and efforts to establish closer ties. Here are just a few examples of the growing cooperation between the two nations:
- Political meetings Albania and Azerbaijan: representatives of the respective administrations meet regularly to discuss issues of common interest, as on the occasion of Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama's visit to Azerbaijan.
- Business partnerships Albanian and Azerbaijani companies and research organizations share a number of joint projects in various fields, notably in the energy sector.
- Joint cultural initiatives Albanian and Azerbaijani culture: cultural events are also organized to promote exchange and sharing between Albanian and Azerbaijani cultures.
An environment conducive to partnerships
The reciprocal abolition of visas between Azerbaijan and Albania takes place in a favorable geopolitical context. The two countries have converging interests that are helping to bring their positions closer together on the international stage. Azerbaijan and Albania are both members of the Turkic Council, and actively participate in development and dialogue initiatives in the region.
