Australia extends its «Immi» app to travelers from 34 countries

Traveling to Australia is becoming easier for citizens of many countries. The Australian government has announced a major expansion of its «Immi» application, now allowing travelers from 34 countries, including Thailand, Malaysia, and South Korea, to complete their biometric identity checks directly from their phones.

This initiative aims to modernize the processing of visa applications by eliminating the need for eligible applicants to physically visit an Australian embassy or consulate, a process that is often costly and time-consuming.

A fast, paperless procedure

The Immi app (Australian Immi App) allows users to scan their passport chip (via NFC technology) and take a live photo to confirm their identity. Once these items have been submitted to the Department of Home Affairs (DHA), the applicant's account is usually updated within 24 hours.

This solution offers considerable time savings, particularly for applicants residing far from consular centers, thus saving them travel and accommodation costs.

The application is available for download from App Store And Play Store.

Strict eligibility requirements

Although access has been expanded to 34 countries, use of the app remains subject to specific criteria. To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Have already provided fingerprints and a photo (biometric data) during a previous visa application to the Department of Homeland Security.
  • Have a visa lodging number (VLN) beginning with AUI Or AUH.
  • Have a valid passport and a smartphone (iOS or Android) equipped with a camera and NFC functionality.

It is important to note that The application only handles the biometric part of the process. ; the other steps in the visa application process remain unchanged.

Countries concerned

Several nationals, including French travelers, are confirmed as beneficiaries of this system at the end of 2025. The following nationalities are affected:

  • Asia : Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong
  • Pacific: Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Vanuatu.
  • Africa : South Africa.

We advise you, before taking this step, to check your eligibility for a visa. Several types of visas are available. You can view the list at official website of the Australian authorities.

The majority of European citizens are eligible to obtain the eVisitor (Visa Subclass 651), allowing you to stay for tourism or business purposes. It is valid for 12 months from the date of issue and allows you to stay for up to 90 days, with multiple entries into Australia. The entire process can be completed online, and visa approval is sent by email. Visit our website to apply for your eVisitor visa: visamundi.co/destinations/australia/
