New Zealand recently expanded its access to its e-gates automated terminals to 11 new countriesThe Group's activities are carried out in a number of countries, mainly in Europe, including Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway and the Vatican, as well as in Macao (Special Administrative Region of China) and several Middle Eastern countries, including Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.
Progressive, secure deployment
This follows a successful trial phase, during which New Zealand customs authorities worked with Immigration New Zealand to ensure that e-passports from these countries met the necessary security and biometric requirements.
48 countries now eligible
In total, e-gates are now available to nationals of 48 countries, with more nationalities expected to be added by the end of the year.
Benefits of e-gates
- E-gates use biometric software and electronic passport data to carry out controls in seconds.
- This system enables agents to focus more on high-risk travellers and baggage screening, while stepping up the fight against illegal activities such as drug trafficking.
- Currently, about 70 % of passengers arriving in or departing from New Zealand are screened via these automated kiosks.
