We are currently seeing a much stricter application of the rules governing the issue of long-stayโ electronic visasโ from the Cameroonian authorities.
If you used to apply for a 6-month visa โas a precautionโ or to have more flexibility, here's what's changed.
The facts: The end of the โlong-stay comfort visaโ
Until recently, it was common for travelers to apply for a Long Stay visa (valid for up to 12 months) even for a trip of just a few weeks, to guard against any unforeseen circumstances or to anticipate a possible 2nd trip.
Today, the Cameroonian consular authorities carry out a strict verification of the consistency between :
- Type of visa requested.
- Supporting documents (round-trip air tickets, hotel reservation, accommodation certificate or letter of invitation).

Reclassification as โShort stayโ possible
If you apply for a Long Stay e-Visa but your supporting documents only cover a short period (e.g. a plane ticket for a 15-day stay), your application will not be refused, but may be rejected or switched to a short-stay visa, without recovery of the difference in price.
The Cameroonian authorities will then switch your application to a Short Stay (Standard) visa, valid for the duration justified by your documents (generally up to 6 months).
In a nutshell : The visa issued will be strictly based on the dates proven by your travel documents, and not on your initial wishes.
| Our tips for future requests Be consistent and apply for a Long Stay visa only if your first trip actually exceeds 6 months or if you can prove multiple return trips over the period. You must provide documents covering this long period (changeable tickets, letter of invitation specifying total duration and multiple entries, long-term mission order, etc.). Make sure that the dates mentioned on your accommodation certificate or letter of invitation correspond to the duration of the visa you are applying for. |
