Egypt has announced the expansion of its entry facilitation measures for tourists, including by improving its electronic visa (e-visa) system, as soon as travelers enter the country. This issue has been under discussion by the Ministry of Tourism since May 2025, with the aim of reducing waiting times at immigration when obtaining visas at international airports.
The Egyptian Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, chaired a meeting on Monday, November 20, 2025, at the firm's headquarters in the New Capital, to review progress made in expanding entry facilities. This meeting brought together several ministers and senior officials from the relevant authorities and ministries.
Goal for 2026: Complete airport equipment
The new system of formalities upon arrival will be based on obtaining a visa via a QR code. Payment will be made online.
The Prime Minister has given clear instructions that all airports in Egypt will be fully equipped by 2026. They will need to be able to process visitors through two systems: the electronic visa system and the emergency visa service. This dual capability is intended to ensure flexibility and ease of entry for all travelers.
Cabinet spokesperson Mohamed El-Homsany said that the meeting provided an opportunity to review recent developments in the implementation of the integrated electronic visa issuance system. Efforts are also underway to modernize infrastructure at airports and border crossings. These improvements are specifically aimed at expand the availability of electronic visa services, to simplify procedures for tourists and speed up entry and departure processes.

Tourism is described by Mr. Madbouly as one of the most vital pillars of the national economy and a key driver of development. He emphasized that tourism remains one of the fastest and most effective sources of foreign currency. For this reason, the government is prioritizing measures aimed at enhance the visitor experience and to guarantee smoother entry and exit procedures at all airports and border crossings.
Mr. Madbouly also affirmed the state's commitment to supporting the tourism sector, noting the government's ongoing efforts to introduce additional incentives and facilitations across all components of the industry.
He highlighted the importance of this increased preparation, as the upcoming opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum should significantly boost tourist arrivals. It is crucial to ensure that all points of entry are fully prepared to provide simplified and improved entry procedures, particularly for organized tourist groups.
