The government of Bangladesh has announced the temporary suspension of visas on arrival (VoA) for a one-month period from January 15 to February 15. A measure affecting neighboring countries and missions in India
This decision affects all the countries that usually benefit from these facilities, including neighbouring countries such as Bhutan and Nepal. The Bangladeshi government has officially communicated this suspension to the authorities of these countries. At the same time, the issue of visas has also been suspended in the main Bangladesh diplomatic missions in India, with no prospect of recovery before the end of the election.
Preventing electoral violence
Although the authorities have not given explicit reasons for this decision, it is widely accepted that it is intended to securing borders and to prevent any potential violence during the election period.
