e-Visa India: new air, land and sea entry points

India has just announced opening new entry points, which will be added to the list of airports, ports and land checkpoints. For travelers wishing to use the e-visa, it will now be possible to enter India via the land borders with Nepal and Bhutan.

New authorized entry points

Until recently, entering India with an electronic visa (e-Visa) often required an international flight to a metropolis. Since the end of 2025, the major new features concern arrivals via the land borders. For โ€œslow travelersโ€ and travelers with a South Asia travel itinerary, it is now possible to enter India overland with an e-Visa via :

  • Jogbani (Bihar): Ideal for travelers from eastern Nepal.
  • Darranga (Assam): The new official gateway from Bhutan.

The e-Visa is now accepted in 19 ports, These ports facilitate cruises and private arrivals to the state of Kerala. The ports of Kollam and Vizhinjam are added to the list of entry points.

33 airports airports are now equipped and ready to welcome travellers using e-visa, including the new Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh).

The list of immigration checkpoints approved for entry into India with an e-visa can be consulted on the authorities' official website.

The โ€œZero Stressโ€ pre-departure checklist

The Indian administration has digitized its procedures. Here are the two documents you need to travel to India in 2026:

1. The e-Visa (ETA)
You can now apply until 120 days before your arrival date. Your passport must be at least 2 blank pages and be valid for 6 months after arrival. When applying, you will need to provide a passport photo.

2. The new e-Arrival Card (Compulsory)
Since the end of 2025, the paper immigration form distributed on the plane has disappeared. You must fill in your e-Arrival Card online on the official portal (or via the Su-Swagatam) in the 72 hours before you land or cross the border. A QR code will be issued for immigration checks.

Questions from our travellers

Can I leave India via a non-listed point?
Yes, the restrictions only apply to theโ€™entrance. For Exit, you can use any of India's approved Immigration Control Points (ICPs) (there are over 100).
Is the e-Visa valid for Sikkim or Ladakh?
The e-Visa allows you to enter India, but certain sensitive areas (Protected/Restricted Areas) such as Sikkim, parts of Ladakh or Arunachal Pradesh require an additional permit (PAP/RAP) to be obtained on site or through an approved agency.
What happens if I arrive at an unmentioned land border?
If you have an e-Visa and present yourself at an unequipped land point (such as Wagah with Pakistan), you will be refused entry. You will have to go to one of the 4 land points or to an authorized airport.
