Since May 5, Cuban citizens wishing to travel to Europe have benefited from a simplified procedure for obtaining a Schengen visa, thanks to an initiative by the Swedish Embassy in Havana. This change facilitates access to one of the most popular visas for Cuban travelers wishing to visit the European continent.
Travelling with a Schengen visa
The Schengen visa allows nationals of several countries to stay for up to 90 days in the Schengen areaWhether for tourism, business or family reasons. Once you've obtained your visa, you can travel freely to countries such as Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Poland, the Netherlands, and all other member states of the Schengen area, without needing another visa.
A process modernized by Sweden
Swedish Embassy in Cuba has announced on its social networks that it is setting up a digital channel via the Swedish Migration Agency, making it possible to apply for a visa online. This innovation puts an end to the need to make an appointment in person, a system that often involved long delays and complex procedures.
This progress comes at a time when the number of European visa applications in Cuba is shrinking, particularly with the announced closure of the Dutch embassy in Havana, which also handled this type of application.
