Goodbye paper, hello digital: The e-Arrival card

The major new feature is the replacement of physical landing cards by a optional digital arrival card (e-arrival card). This measure applies to all foreign nationals visiting India for professional, tourism, study or business reasons. This formality is free of charge and there are no consular fees.

Gone are the days of frantically searching for a pen on the plane to fill in the form! You can now submit this information online before you leave. The information required remains the same: :

  • Passport number
  • Nationality
  • Reason for visit
  • Travel dates
  • Address in India
  • Contact details

The process is simplified as far as possible: no documents need to be uploaded. The request must be made within 72 hours prior to your arrival in India. As soon as the form has been finalized, you'll be able to instantly download your e-Arrival Card in PDF format.

It is important to note that Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) cardholders are not affected by this new digital arrival card.

A global initiative to speed up the transition to immigration

This new measure is part of a wider drive by India's Home Ministry to use technology to speed up immigration procedures. It complements an existing program, the "Fast Track Immigration - Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP)for Indian citizens and OCI cardholders.

Launched in 2024 and now available in 13 major airports, this program allows immigration clearance in just 30 seconds, without queues or manual checks. According to a government press release, some 300,000 travelers have already registered, and 265,000 have used it successfully.
