Working remotely in Canada for six months
Under current Canadian law, travelers on tourist visas can work remotely from the country and stay for up to six months. A new update was published on June 27 of this year to remind foreign visitors that this is possible..
Canada has also announced its first express entry for skilled workers and launched a "strategy for the digital nomad"This strategy would enable a technology worker employed by a foreign company to arrive in Canada today and continue working for that employer. Under this strategy, a technology worker employed by a foreign company could arrive in Canada today and continue to work for that employer.
A win-win strategy for Canada and digital nomad workers
By launching this digital nomad strategy, Canadian government hopes to attract digital talent to the country. Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said the strategy will allow workers with foreign employers to stay and work in Canada for six months. If they receive a job offer while in the country, they will be able to stay in Canada even longer. In his view, this will be extremely beneficial for Canada, as these workers will be spending money in Canadian communities. It will also help strengthen the economy and create jobs for Canadians.
Please note: if you have a valid visa for Canada, you generally don't need an AVE to travel there, as it's included.
A boon for India's digital nomads
This new strategy is of particular interest to the Indian diaspora, which is the largest in the world. Indian students, job seekers and employees will be able to take advantage of this opportunity to develop their skills and work experience in Canada. The journalist Lubna Kablyspecializing in immigration policy and legislation, points out that this measure could help demystify immigration policy developments in certain countries for students and job seekers.
Increased competition for digital talent
With this new initiative, Canada joins a growing number of countries seeking to attract digital nomad workers. In an increasingly globalized and connected world, competition for digital talent continues to intensify. Governments around the world are recognizing the importance of these professionals in stimulating their economies and creating jobs.
