Cuba has just relaxed its entry procedures for foreign visitors, news that should delight travelers and tourism professionals alike. No more last-minute stress about completing formalities online! From now on, tourists will be able to register on the D'Viajeros up to one week (7 days) before their arrival on the island.
Extended lead times for greater flexibility
Previously, travelers had to connect to D'Viajeros within 48 hours of their flight to Cuba. This can be too short a time, especially for those who prefer to pack without stress. Good news: since October 1, 2024, this time slot has been extended to 7 days.. Time to take a breather and enjoy the final preparations before the big departure.
This extension is not insignificant. It responds to a growing demand from tourists, but also from Cuban travel agencies and hoteliers. The aim? To make the experience of entering the country smoother and more pleasant. No more long queues at Havana airport!
D'Viajeros : instructions for use
By the way, what is D'Viajeros? It's an online platform set up by the Cuban government. Its aim is to centralize all visitor information prior to arrival. Specifically, you'll need to enter your personal details and your e-Visa number. This process enables the Cuban authorities to streamline checks on arrival.
The Cuban Ministry of Tourism is enthusiastic about this development: "The D'Viajeros platform is now available! You can complete your declaration up to 7 days before the date of your trip to Cuba. Don't waste time and ensure a trouble-free entry". A clear message that shows the country's desire to make it easier for tourists to visit, just like the replacement of tourist cards by an e-Visa.
It's also a way for the island to remain competitive in the Caribbean tourism market. By simplifying entry formalities, Cuba hopes to attract more visitors and boost its tourism economy, a crucial sector for the country.
The Cuban government has lowered its forecast for 2024 from 3.2 million to 2.7 million visitors, a drop of 16%.
From January to August 2024, Cuba welcomed 1,608,078 international visitors, representing just 96.5% of the number of tourists received over the same period in 2023. Russia is the only major market with a strong increase (+24.8%), with 132,935 tourists.
