Brazil: progressive launch of electronic visas for several nationalities

Since April 10, 2025, nationals holding Australian, Canadian or American passports must obtain a visa to enter Brazil.following the entry into force of the executive decree establishing this requirement.

Reasons for decision

According to the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this measure, decided in May 2023, is based on the principle of reciprocity: none of these three countries grants visa exemption to Brazilian citizens, and Brazil does not offer unilateral exemption for tourist visas. The Brazilian government is nevertheless pursuing negotiations with the USA, Canada and Australia with a view to reciprocal visa waiver agreements. The Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino, reaffirmed this position, noting that discussions are underway with US authorities to obtain equivalent treatment for Brazilian travelers.
