Libya moves ahead with the launch of its electronic visa

A meeting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation concerning visa regulations took place at the end of June at the Libyan Passport and Nationality Department in Tripoli.

During the meeting, it was agreed to introduce an electronic visa submission system in line with the Passport Authority's proposal, and to review the Passport Act's implementing regulations concerning visa prices and the donor with the introduction of an electronic visa. The project started in 2021 and the contract signed with IBM.

It has also been agreed that Libyan missions abroad, whether embassies or consulates, will be the only ones authorized to receive documents in paper or electronic form, and to issue visas in accordance with the coordination arrangements between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Passport Authority.

e-Visa, a major innovation for Libya

In an effort to boost its tourism sector and attract foreign investment, Libya has expressed growing interest in electronic visas, or e-Visa. This initiative aims to simplify the administrative procedures involved in traveling to the country, and enhance its image among international visitors. The Libyan e-Visa will enable travelers to obtain their visa online, without having to visit an embassy or consulate.

The application is simply made on the dedicated website, where it is necessary to fill in a form with personal information and pay the visa fee by credit card. Once the application has been accepted, the electronic visa will be e-mailed to the applicant, who must print it out and present it to the authorities on arrival in Libya.

A tool to support the government of national unity

The forthcoming electronic visa system is part of the national unity government's efforts to turn the country around and normalize its situation after years of civil war. The e-Visa is seen as a means of promoting Libya as an attractive tourist and business destination, helping to stimulate the local economy and strengthen international relations. By facilitating travel to Libya, the government also hopes to attract foreign investors and encourage multinational companies to set up operations in the country. The introduction of the e-Visa is a strong signal of the national unity government's commitment to modernization and economic development.

The tourism and travel sector is booming

The revival of Libya's tourism sector is a major challenge for the government, which is counting on this industry to diversify its economy and create jobs. With its archaeological sites, desert landscapes and rich history, Libya has everything it takes to seduce travelers in search of adventure and cultural discovery. Since the establishment of the government of national unity, Several countries have lifted their travel restrictions to Libya, demonstrating their confidence in the country's efforts to ensure the safety of its visitors. The introduction of the e-Visa should reinforce this momentum by simplifying the administrative procedures involved in traveling to Libya.
