The Gabonese government has decided to introduce visa-free travel for nationals of G20 member countries since the end of February to strengthen diplomatic relations and exchanges with these countries.
Visa exemption applies only to persons holding a passport valid for at least 3 months on the date of arrival. The decision was made public in a circular signed jointly by the Minister of the Interior, the Minister of Defense and the Delegate for Foreign Affairs. The authorized stay can be up to 90 days, which is as long as the e-Visa previously required for travelers of these nationalities.
In 2017, Gabon had already introduced this exemption along with a few CEMAC nationalities (Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Chad) before going back on it some time later.
The G20 is made up of the following countries : Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and the rest of the European Union.ย Already, French and Russian diplomatic and service passports (among others) did not require a visa to enter the country.
The G20 represents 80 % of the world's GDP, 75 % of international trade and 60 % of the world's population.
Local authorities can refuse entry or residence to people who threaten public order, national security or state safety.
