The Cuban government plans to implement an electronic visa system to replace traditional tourist cards starting in 2025.
This measure is designed to simplify and modernize the visa process for international travelers, particularly Mexicans, who account for a significant share of tourism on the island.
Farewell to green and pink tourist cards
According to several Mexican media, the end of green and pink visas is scheduled for December 31, 2024. From 2025, these visas will no longer be valid, and travelers will have to opt for an electronic visa to visit Cuba.
Tests scheduled for 2024
During the year, various tests will be carried out to bring the visa application process into the digital age and thus move away from the physical cards currently in use. The announcement was made at a meeting with local tourism operators and representatives of Cuban tourism companies.
The advantages of an e-visa
The switch to e-Visas offers several advantages for travellers and the Cuban authorities:
- Apply online, simplifying the process for travellers;
- Faster processing of visa applications;
