Remember that story about the Egyptian e-Visa for Canadians? Well, we've got some news, and not the least: the date is finally known!
December 1, D-Day for Canadian travellers
After months of suspense and speculationthe knife has fallen: Canadians will receive their precious electronic pass to enter Egypt on December 1. That's great news for all those pyramid and papyrus enthusiasts who've been waiting with bated breath!
Perfect timing
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Monday that Egypt would cancel the current pre-arrival visa requirements for Canadians traveling to the country as of December 1, 2024.
You've got to admit, the timing is pretty good. Just in time to escape the frigid Canadian winter and hit the beaches of the Red Sea. Travel agencies must already be rubbing their hands.
What's changing (or rather, what's staying the same)
In fact, not much has changed from the old system. It's a bit like putting the disc back at the beginning:
- Still the same price
- The same online procedure, as easy as child's play
- Still the same validity period
In short, it's a copy-paste of the old system. But after the difficulties of the last few months, it's still nice to get back into the swing of things.
Behind the diplomatic scenes
It's easy to imagine that behind this announcement, there was a great deal of behind-the-scenes negotiation. Canadian and Egyptian diplomats had to wear out their knickers on the negotiating benches. The result: an agreement that smacks of compromise and mutual goodwill.
Egypt, as tempting as ever
While all this was going on in suits and ties, Egypt had lost none of its charm. The pyramids are still there, the Nile still flows in the same direction, and the sun still shines down on Luxor.
For those who missed the previous episodes and are still wondering how to obtain their visa, don't panic! From December 1, all you have to do is log on to the official website or via an intermediary agency, fill in the online form, and off you go.
