European ETIAS exit postponed again to 2024

It was originally scheduled for 2022, then the end of 2023. There is now no mention of a specific date for the ETIAS exit, but only one year: 2024.

ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) is an electronic travel authorization system designed to strengthen EU border security and management by preventing terrorist threats and cross-border crime while facilitating travel for third-country citizens. who do not require a visa to enter the Schengen area.

In a nutshell, it's a kind of European ESTA applied to 60 nationalities (mainly Western) currently exempt from visa requirements. 1.4 billion people are eligible.

ETIAS will be an online system where travelers subject to this authorization requirement can submit their application over the internet in a matter of minutes, providing information such as identity, nationality, address and travel history. The information provided will then be checked against relevant databases, such as the EU Visa Information System, the EU Criminal Records Information System and Interpol, to determine whether the traveler represents a risk to EU security.

THE official European website on the approach now speaks of "as early as 2024" without actually specifying the month of application or whether tests will be carried out with a few nationalities during its implementation.

Travel authorization ETIAS will be valid for a period of three years or until the expiry date of your travel document, whichever comes first.
