A new tool for international travellers: the International Air Transport Association (IATA), announced on Tuesday the forthcoming launch of a travel pass by the end of March. IATA also said it was in contact with the Indian authorities and carriers for the use of this pass in India with airlines. Air India, Vistara, IndiGo And SpiceJet.
IATA Travel Pass will be a mobile application, invented by IATA, with the aim of helping passengers travel safely in compliance with government requirements for Covid-19 testing or vaccination. Vinoop Goel, IATA's Regional Director for Airports and External Relations, said "There will be paper alternatives for those without cell phones. IATA already manages health requirements through its Timatic solution, so IATA Travel Pass is a natural evolution to support the industry during the pandemic.".
IATA Travel Pass competes with similar applications such as CommonPass And VeriFLY. Airlines use these apps to help check the validity of passengers' health evidence, whether it's their vaccination, a recent test, recovery from illness or a combination of all three1. Passengers should check with their airline which app is accepted for their flight.
The data stored in the application is protected by strict personal data protection standards.. Travelers can use the app to obtain accurate information on travel requirements, tests and vaccination requirements for their trip2. In addition, the app allows travelers to create a digital version of their passport on their cell phone.
