Cabin travel: what to expect?
At LufthansaUnder certain conditions, it is possible to travel with your pet in the cabin. Only dogs, cats and domestic birds are authorized to travel in the cabin (other species must travel in the hold or by cargo).
To travel in the cabin, your pet must meet the following criteria:
- Maximum weight authorized is 8 kg (including animal and container).
- The container must be a flexible, waterproof and secure transport cage.
- The maximum dimensions of the container are 55x40x23 cm.
- The animal must be able to stand up, turn around and lie down comfortably in its cage.
It's important to check with your airline about the fees charged for transporting pets in the cabin, as well as any regulations specific to your destination country concerning the import of pets.
Travelling in the hold: safe conditions for larger animals
Lufthansa also allows pets to be carried in the hold, subject to certain conditions:
- Type of animal : Only dogs, cats, domestic birds and rabbits may travel in the hold. All other species must be transported as cargo.
- Weight : Total weight (animal and container) must not exceed 50 kg
- Cage: A sturdy, watertight, lockable cage must be used to transport the animal. Maximum dimensions vary according to aircraft type. In addition, the cage must allow the animal to stand up, turn around and lie down comfortably.
Please note that animals carried in the hold must be at least 12 weeks old and have received all necessary vaccinations.
