Namibia: new entry points eligible for visa-on-arrival

Visa on arrival is now available at Katima Mulilo,ย ร  Impalila Island (Zambia) And Ngoma (Botswana). This measure was officially launched by the Namibian Minister of Home Affairs and Immigration, Albert Kawana. This initiative will benefit Namibia's tourism sector, and in particular the Zambezi region directly concerned.

The 3 categories of passports - ordinary, diplomatic and service - are taken into account for obtaining visas on arrival.says Kawana. However, this provision excludes people coming to work or take up employment in Namibia; these individuals will have to apply for and obtain a work permit beforehand.

Greater control and development of youth employment

Albert Kawana insists that immigration officers must continue to carry out thorough checks on visitors entering Namibia. This includes ensuring that the individual is not a prohibited immigrant or on blacklists such as Interpol.

In order to maximize the benefits of the tourism sector, foster the country's economic and social development and promote employment opportunities - especially for young people - the Ministry of Internal Affairs will be leading ongoing efforts to relax visa policy, in collaboration with various governmental and non-governmental players.

Kawana also stresses the importance of the professionalism, integrity and friendliness of border officials, including immigration officers. Mistreatment of visitors will not be tolerated.

We will continue to train our agents, but let's not forget that we are competing with other countries where tourists are treated humanely."warned Kawana. Any inappropriate behaviour on the part of immigration officers will be punished without fear or favour..

Most nationalities already exempt from visa requirements

Most Western nationalities (North America, Europe, Russia, Australia, etc.) as well as neighboring countries in southern Africa are visa-free for stays of less than 90 days per calendar year.

Only certain countries in Central America (Colombia, Mexico), Eastern Europe (Romania, Poland), Indochina and sub-Saharan Africa (Mauritania, Niger, etc.) require a visa on arrival. Germany is the first European country to visit their former protectorate.
