China has once again announced measures to facilitate access to the country and boost its economy in the wake of the pandemic. These reforms mainly concern entry procedures, visa renewal and relief for frequent travelers.
China has taken this decision with a view to strengthen its position as a hub for tourism, trade and cultural diplomacy. By facilitating access for business travel, tourist visits and cultural exchanges, China is opening its doors more widely to the whole world. These measures also suggest that further relaxation of border regulations could be envisaged in the future.
- Visa renewal : you no longer need to leave China to apply for a visa extension.
- Extension in police stations : Travelers can now extend their visas at police stations, without having to go to the consulate.
- Visa on arrival for urgent needs : foreigners who urgently need to enter China for business, investment or other non-diplomatic and non-official activities may, if they are unable to obtain a visa abroad in time, apply for a visa on arrival at the airport by presenting letters of invitation and other relevant supporting documents. A multiple-entry visa may also be offered.
- No more transit checks: 9 airports (Beijing Capital, Beijing Daxing, Shanghai Pudong, Hangzhou Xiaoshan, Xiamen Gaoqi, Guangzhou Baiyun, Shenzhen Bao'an, Chengdu Tianfu And Xi'an Xianyang) will offer visa-free transit and exemption from customs inspection for passengers with connections of less than 24 hours.
Visa-free policy and increased flight frequencies
Nationals of 6 countries (including France) can enjoy visa-free multiple entry to China for one year. This measure is designed to encourage frequent exchanges between these countries and China, with a view to closer collaboration on a variety of fronts, such as the economy, tourism and culture.
Increasing flight frequencies to international destinations will also facilitate travel and support tourist flows.
At the same time, China has also announced a mutual visa waiver with Thailand.

I am very much looking forward to the opportunity to visit Thailand. However, I am indeed worried about the Myawadi Telefraud Park on the Thailand Myanmar border.
