Travellers can now obtain their visa on arrival in Namibia from 5 new border posts. Namibia's Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Security and Safety, Albert Kawanaannounced that this facility was now available at the country's main ports of entry.
New border posts concerned by visa-on-arrival requirements
From now on, the five border crossings offering visa on arrival are Oshikango, Mohembo, Ariamsvlei, Oranjemund and Noordoewer. Previously, this service was only available at 2 international airports, Hosea Kutako in Windhoek and Walvis Bay, and four land border crossings Katima Mulilo, Ngoma, Impalila and Trans-Kalahari.
The aim: to facilitate and boost tourism in Namibia
According to the Minister, this extension of the program aims to promote tourism and international investment by simplifying the entry of foreign visitors to Namibia.
- In this way, it reduces the amount of administrative procedures prior to travel, and enhances the transparency of the process.
- Tourists from countries without Namibian diplomatic representation, who may previously have had difficulty obtaining a visa, can now benefit from one on arrival.
More than 58 countries covered by this policy
Nationals from over 58 countries are now eligible for this facility. This list includes African countries such as Benin and Uganda, as well as countries in the rest of the world such as Argentina, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates.
Visas on arrival: for which visitor profiles?
The Minister Albert Kawana specifies that several categories of foreign visitors are eligible for a visa on arrival:
- Tourists to Namibia
- Potential investors interested in the Namibian market
- Participants in meetings or seminars
- People visiting Namibia for medical or family reasons
