Tourism is a crucial sector for the US economy, contributing around 7.8 % of GDP and accounting for over 10 % of total employment. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on the US tourism industry, leading to massive job losses and a drop in travel demand.
The US government has provided considerable financial support to the tourism sector during the pandemic, notably with the multi-billion dollar rescue package, which will help sustain tourism businesses and maintain the viability of the sector.
The USA remains a top tourist destination for many travellers from all over the world, with iconic cities such as New York, Las Vegas, Orlando, Los Angeles, San Francisco and famous tourist attractions such as the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone National Park. With the prospect of a recovery in the US tourism industry, the United States is well placed to regain its leadership role in the global tourism sector.
