How to apply
Applications for COP29 special visas can only be made online via the ASAN Visa, Azerbaijan's official electronic visa application portal. Candidates must provide the following information:
- Personal data
- Passport information
- COP29 accreditation number
- Scheduled arrival and departure dates
Once the application has been submitted and approved, the electronic visa will be emailed to the applicant, who must print it out and present it to the border authorities on arrival in Azerbaijan.
Eligible countries and exceptions
The special COP29 visa will be available to nationals of all countrieswith the exception of Armenia ๐ฆ๐ฒ. Armenian citizens wishing to participate in COP29 will have to follow a specific procedure to be communicated later by the organizing committee.
It is important to note that nationals of the following countries are exempt from visa requirements for Azerbaijan and will therefore not need to apply for the special COP29 visa: Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan.
This initiative by free, easy visa should contribute to increased participation at COP29, by reducing administrative and financial barriers for delegates, particularly those from developing countries. In this way, the Azerbaijani government hopes to encourage broader, more inclusive representation at the crucial climate change talks.
As a major oil and gas producer, Azerbaijan is seeking to demonstrate its commitment to the energy transition and the fight against climate change. The introduction of this special visa is part of a wider strategy to ensure the success of the event and promote the country's image on the international stage.
