Suriname: entry fees must now be paid before boarding

From now on, travellers who wish to go to the Suriname๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ท have to take into account a new regulation concerning entry fees. Since January 15, 2024, it has been compulsory to pay these fees before embarking for this South American country.

Suriname: details of the new regulations

Here are the key points to remember about the new Suriname entry fee regulations:

  • Entry fees must be paid online before departure (25 USD, i.e. 23 €)
  • The admission voucher obtained after online payment must be presented when boarding.
  • This measure is designed to avoid inconvenience and delays on arrival in Suriname.

Previously, it was possible to pay these fees on arrival in Suriname. This option is no longer available as of January 15, 2024.

Payment of entrance fees online

To pay this fee, you need to go to the dedicated online platform. You will need to provide a scanned copy of your passport and the following information:

  • Last name
  • First name
  • Nationality
  • Type
  • Date of birth
  • Passport number
  • E-mail address
  • Phone number
  • Date of arrival in Suriname

Once payment has been made and the information provided, you will receive an entry voucher which you will need to present when boarding your flight to Suriname.

Exceptions to the rule: certain categories of travellers are exempt from entry fees

The new regulations do not apply to all travelers. Since May 1, 2023, Suriname has reinstated visa requirements for nationals of 21 countries:ย Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Eritrea, Ghana, India, Kenya, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tunisia, Venezuela and Zambia.

Tourists from these countries must therefore obtain an electronic visa before traveling to Suriname, but do not have to pay entry fees.

Emergencies and special exemptions

THE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Cooperation of Suriname specifies that in certain emergencies, travelers may enter Suriname without an entry permit. However, this is only possible after obtaining explicit written approval of the relevant ministry.
