We don't yet know whether to laugh or cry, and what symbolism we can find in it when we know how difficult it is to obtain a USA visa for certain nationalities. In any case, the U.S. Embassy in Japan has invited the Japanese baseball star Shohei Ohtani last January, and decided to give him a nod by offering a visa to... his star dog Decoy.
The US ambassador to Japan met the baseball star and presented him with a fake visa specially designed for his loyal furry companion. The two men posed together for a souvenir photo before the announcement of the title of Most Valuable Player (MVP) 2023 which was attributed to Shohei Ohtani. The player shared the fake visa on social networks, which was then picked up by Major League Baseball (MLB).

In this fictitious document, the dog's age is marked as unknownand its number "000GOODBOY000", and the type of visa "canine".
Decoy, Ohtani's dog, had caused a stir on social networks during the MLB off-season due to his close relationship with his master. That's when the American authorities came up with the idea of playing a trick on Ohtani by issuing him this fictitious visa for his dog. The aim was to share a light-hearted and amusing moment between the two men and discuss their shared passion for baseball.
Revelations about the star dog
Recently, Shohei Ohtani lifted the veil on some information concerning Decoy, notably by revealing to the media the nickname given by fans to his dog. The player had previously kept his pet's name a secret for months, even teasing journalists who wanted to know more about the animal.
At the press conference to sign his contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Ohtani revealed that fans can call his dog "Decoy".
Decoy's popularity is such that he is now considered one of MLB's iconic figures, to the point where some humorous comments mention "MVP and Shohei Ohtani"to talk about Ohtani and his dog.
