Franco-American reciprocity agreement
The shortening of E1 and E2 visas from 5 years to 15 months in 2019 has been accompanied by additional administrative hassle and more frequent renewal expenses for applicants.
This surprising reduction, targeting only the Frenchwas the result of a memo signed in March 2017 that instructed the State Department to undertake a comprehensive review of reciprocity agreements for non-immigrant visas. This question was part of Emmanuel Macron's state visit to the United States in December 2022.
In exchange for the extension, Congressman Weissberg says that France is committed to facilitating all visa granting and renewal procedures for American investors and entrepreneurs.
Reviving business creation
Sylvain Perret, founder of a company that helps French nationals set up business in the United States, makes no secret of his delight. "Not only will this facilitate visa renewals, but it will also boost business creation."he explains. "Since the shortening, we've seen a significant drop in interest in E visas. Now, there are many people who will reactivate their projects."

French entrepreneurs in the United States will benefit from a longer stay, while American entrepreneurs in France will have access to a simplified procedure.
