Egypt wants to take advantage of this period to boost tourism. The African state has decided to make it easier to obtain its electronic visa, bringing the number of visitors to 74 the number of nationalities eligible for the online procedure. Simpler, entirely digital and with no exchange rate worries on arrival, the e-Visa is also popular for limiting interaction and waiting time at the airport.
The 28 new nationalities include China, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates.
As a reminder, consular fees start at 25$ per traveler for entry into Egypt. You can also get it on this site or ours. At the time of writing, health constraints are virtually non-existent in Egypt, but quarantine is imposed on non-vaccinated people returning to France.
Tourism is a very important sector for Egypt's economy, accounting for around 12% of GDP and providing jobs for millions of people in Egypt. The COVID-19 pandemic affected the tourism sector worldwide, including Egypt. However, Egypt has taken several measures to minimize the impact of the pandemic on the tourism sector and support businesses and workers in the sector.
Here are some of the measures Egypt took to save its tourism sector during the COVID-19 pandemic:
- Health and safety protocols Egypt has developed health and safety protocols for tourism-related businesses and establishments, such as hotels, restaurants and tourist sites. These protocols include measures such as regular disinfection of high-traffic areas, taking guests' temperatures, wearing face masks and implementing social distancing measures.
- Promoting domestic tourism To compensate for the drop in international tourism, Egypt has encouraged its citizens to travel within their own country by offering financial incentives, such as price reductions and special rates, to visit local tourist sites.
- Support for companies in the sector The Egyptian government has announced a number of support measures for businesses in the tourism sector, including tax deferrals and subsidized loans for companies in financial difficulty.
