THE The government of Brunei has recently introduced new sanitary control measures. for all travelers entering the country. These provisions, which came into force on September 7, 2024, are designed to strengthen surveillance and prevent the spread of the Mpox virus (formerly known as monkeypox) in the country.

Digital health declaration

All individuals arriving in Brunei, whether by air, land or sea, are now required to use the BruHealth mobile application, on iOS Or Google Play. This application serves as a platform for filling in a compulsory health declaration form on arrival in Brunei.

  • Tracking travel history
  • Interface with border control systems
  • Real-time notifications for travelers and health authorities

Required information

The health declaration form requires travelers to provide the following information:

  • 21-day travel history
  • Possible presence of Mpox-related symptoms
  • Potential contacts with confirmed or suspected cases of Mpox
  • Details of recent vaccinations, particularly against smallpox

This new requirement is implemented by virtue of the Infectious Diseases Act, chapter 204as part of control measures against the Mpox epidemic. Failure to comply with these provisions may result in legal sanctions.

Sanitary control procedures at entry points

In addition to the declaration via the BruHealthAll travelers entering Brunei are subject to health screening at checkpoints. This screening may include :

  • Temperature control
  • Visual examination for signs of rash
  • Interview with a health agent if necessary

If a traveler presents symptoms compatible with Mpox, or claims to have been in contact with a confirmed case, he or she will be immediately isolated and taken into care by the health authorities for further tests.
