Bali wants to suspend visas for Russian and Ukrainian arrivals

The Governor of Bali Wayan Koster is pounding his fist on the table. Due to the numerous disturbances caused by Russian and Ukrainian nationals in the province, he has sent a letter to the Indonesian Ministry requesting the suspension of the issuance of visas on arrival for these two nationalities.

The local press is reporting incivilities on the part of many travelers from these countries, who are flocking to Indonesia during the ongoing conflict in Eastern Europe, while continuing to settle scores. These nationalities also tend to look for work despite a visitor's visa, or to stay longer in spite of the 30 or 60 days authorized.

Ukraine and Russia are among the 87 nationalities currently accepted for visitor visas on arrival.

Ukrainian ambassador to Indonesia, Vasyl Hamianinwho has been stationed throughout ASEAN for less than 2 years, said he was "offended"by this "unfriendly act". He doesn't want Ukrainians to be considered "as a single batch" with the Russians and would like the governor "clarifies the number and nature of violations committed by Ukrainians on site"He added that only 5,000 Ukrainians were in Indonesia, compared with 60,000 Russians, mainly in Bali.
