Chad: Electronic visas (e-Visa) become compulsory

Since the May 11, 2026, Chad has fully dematerialized its visa issuance process. Gone are the queues at consulates and manual entry authorizations: applications must now be made online.

This new entry requirement has been under development by the authorities since 2019. In December 2024, the online application platform became official.. Today, international travellers will have to e-visa application required, online, ahead of the planned trip to Chad.

What's new for your trip to Chad

The Chadian government has officially switched to the government platform eVisa.td to manage its migratory flows. All new applications (tourism, business, family visits) must go through the online electronic portal. Tolerance is granted until May 21, 2026. After this date, any visa obtained outside the official digital circuit will be considered invalid at the border. Manual entry authorizations will be permanently abolished.

Obtaining a short-stay visa is possible via the online platform, provided that your stay does not exceed 90 days. However, the visa can be extended with the Direction de l'Emigration et de l'Immigration, once you are in France.

What if you still have a valid visa? If you obtained a classic consular visa before May 11, rest assured that it will remain valid until its normal expiry date.

Who is concerned by the Chad e-Visa?

The answer is simple: almost all international travellers. The electronic visa or e-Visa is the new standard for travel to Chad.

The only exemption to the 100% digital rule is for diplomatic and courtesy visas. These very specific requests continue to be handled physically by Chadian embassies and diplomatic representations around the world.

Here is the list of exempt nationalities for which it is possible to travel without a visa for up to 90 days: Barbados, Benin, Bermuda, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Congo (Dem. Rep.), Cรดte d'Ivoire, Dominica, Gabon, Gambia, Equatorial Guinea, Haiti, Cook Islands, Mauritius, Malaysia, Mali, Micronesia, Niger, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Singapore, Suriname.

Requirements for your e-Visa application

To avoid rejection of your file by the Chadian immigration authorities, your digital file must be impeccable. Prepare in advance:

  • A valid passport (at least 6 months valid after your planned return date) with two blank pages.
  • A digital passport photo recent, clear, on a light background and complying with ICAO standards.
  • Your travel documents : round-trip air ticket, hotel reservation or certified letter of invitation (essential for business visas).
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate (still required for entry).

Ready to launch your application? Plan ahead. Although the digital system reduces processing times, we still recommend initiating the procedure at least 7 to 10 days before your flight.
