An electronic visa for Chad

Chad reaches an important milestone in its digital modernization with the deployment of an electronic visa system accessible via the official portal eVisa.td. It had been announced for 2019.

This platform now enables travelers requiring a visa to apply online for a short-stay visa, valid for up to 90 days and offering multiple entries into Chad.

The online portal was officially inaugurated at a solemn ceremony at the Direction Nationale de la Police in N'Djamena. Chaired by Tahir Hamid NguilinMinister of State for Finance, the Budget, the Economy and Planning, this ceremony marks a turning point in the country's administrative history.

Chad thus joins the still restricted circle of nations that have adopted this technology, ranking 26th worldwide in this field. There are 100 for an e-Visa for up to 90 days in Chad.

The nuts and bolts of the new system

The Chad e-Visa is designed to be simple and intuitive to use. Travelers requiring a visa can now apply online, pay the fee and receive their visa electronically.

The government recommends applying between 90 and 7 days before arrival in Chad.

The online form requires standard information such as passport details, personal contact details, occupation and details of the planned stay. Travelers must also specify the purpose of their visit, whether tourism, business, study or a family visit.

Which nationalities are eligible for a Chad e-Visa?

Virtually every country in the world requires a visa for Chadapart from a few border or nearby nationalities: Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, Cรดte d'Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Togo and the United Arab Emirates.

This technological advance is no accident. It is part of a broader strategy of modernization driven by the President Mahamat Idriss Dรฉby Itno. Minister Tahir Hamid Nguilin underlined the importance of this achievement: ".This testifies to Marshal Mahamat Idriss Dรฉby Itno's commitment to the digitalization of our public services, which is now a concrete reality supported by the government.“.

A springboard for development

The introduction of e-Visa is just one piece of a larger puzzle. Chad has just launched the Digital Transformation Support Project (Projet d'appui ร  la transformation numรฉrique - PATN), backed by substantial funding from the World Bank to the tune of 76.45 billion CFA francs. This ambitious project aims to reduce the digital divide, improve connectivity and facilitate access to digital public services throughout the country.

Despite the general enthusiasm, a number of challenges remain. At the time of launch, the online payment system was not yet fully operational, a situation that is set to change rapidly.

Chad's tourist assets

The country abounds in undiscovered natural and cultural treasures. The Ounianga lakes, a UNESCO World Heritage site, offer a breathtaking spectacle in the heart of the desert. The Zakouma National Park, home to exceptional wildlife, promises unforgettable safaris. And let's not forget the cultural richness of the many ethnic groups that make up the Chadian mosaic.
