A new project to facilitate entry into Cambodia
At the inauguration of the new Siem Reap-Angkor international airport in 2023, Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Manet has announced a pilot project for the following year. This is the e-Arrival system, which should be operational by early 2024, and will gradually replace the current paper-based formalities.
This project is supported by the General Department of Immigration of Cambodia and aims to simplify customs and immigration procedures, while limiting the use of paper in favor of electronic technology, as Hun Manet stated:
"I'd like to inform you that Cambodia's General Immigration Department has prepared a new project related to e-Arrival to firstly facilitate the simplification of customs and immigration, and secondly, reduce the use of paper in favor of electronic technology."

The benefits of e-Arrival for international travellers
The electronic arrival system will offer several advantages for tourists and professionals wishing to travel to Cambodia. These include:
- Save time: Airport formalities will be simplified thanks to this dematerialized process.
- Less stress: It will no longer be necessary to fill in a paper form, which can be a source of errors and misunderstandings.
- An ecological contribution: The use of an electronic system will limit the amount of paper used, and therefore the environmental impact of administrative procedures.
To enter Cambodia, foreigners can already obtain a electronic visa depending on their status: the Tourist or Business e-Visa, for less than USD 50, single entry, maximum stay of 30 days and 3-month validity.
Travel tips for Cambodia
All travelers to Cambodia, except citizens of Kosovo and a dozen other visa-exempt countries, must obtain a visa. This document can be obtained on arrival in the country, either at an embassy or through a visa agency using the electronic e-Visa system.
Siem Reap-Angkor international airport to open in 2023 and will represent a real asset for the national tourism economy. The implementation of the e-Arrival system will greatly facilitate the transit of international travellers. However, the Cambodian authorities will have to ensure security and public order in the vicinity of the new airport.
