Good news for expatriates in Thailand! Since November 8, 2022A new online service enables you to extend your visa without having to wait at the immigration office. A real time-saver, since processing time can be cut from one hour to three minutes!
There are many reasons for extending your visa in Thailand, including study, teaching or working for a public body.
These include the 30-day visa on arrival, the 60-day tourist visa, the 45-day visa exemption, students and foreigners with a Thai spouse. Extensions for retirement purposes are excluded.
The website Thaiextension.vfsevisa.com helps cover the process, including payment of fees.
For the time being, this e-Extension service is initially being rolled out by for expatriates living or working in BangkokHowever, the Immigration Office plans to extend this service to all its offices in the future. Also, expatriates must go in person to the Immigration Office on Chaeng Wattana Road to obtain a visa sticker, in addition to verifying their identity. So the system is not (yet) fully electronic.ย
If you don't want to go abroad for the long term, you can apply for a tourist visa for a 60-day stay. Depending on nationality, this can even be done online, using e-visa.
