As a reminder, the ETA is a document required by certain destinations to be able to fly to their territory. This new long-stay electronic permit is proposed by the Sri Lankan authorities for increase tourism in the country.ย  Priced at 35$, it authorizes single entry into the country.

The test phase will run until July 2023. In the meantime, the 30-day ETAs offered by Sri Lanka remain available.

The ETA was introduced in 2012 to facilitate the visa process and attract more foreign tourists to Sri Lanka. Prior to the introduction of ETA, international travelers had to go to the Sri Lankan embassy or consulate to obtain a visa. With the ETA system, the visa application process has been considerably simplified, as travelers can apply online prior to departure.

As a key sector of Sri Lanka's economy, tourism plays an important role in generating revenue for the country. The ETA is helping to attract more foreign tourists, which in turn is helping to boost revenues in the tourism sector and support the country's economy as a whole. The ETA also facilitates business travel and supports trade between Sri Lanka and other foreign countries.. The ETA system makes it easy for business travellers to organize their trips and concentrate on achieving their business objectives.
