The Hong Kong government's press release is formal: Immigration Department launches new electronic visa application serviceThis new service allows applicants to create their file online and receive their visa by e-mail, without having to visit an immigration office in person.
Applications can be made via the Immigration Department's website or mobile app, or via the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government website.
This e-visa will make it possible to restrict the falsification of documents and verify traveler information by scanning the QR code on the Immigration Department's mobile app.
For your information, as soon as the e-visa agreement is implemented, the Immigration Department will stop issuing the usual stickers to be stuck in the passport. However, labels containing visas/entry permits/stay extensions issued before December 28, 2021 will remain valid in accordance with the information shown on them.
In addition, the eVisa agreement does not apply to visas and entry permits issued by Chinese diplomatic and consular missions or the immigration divisions of the mainland government offices of the Hong Kong SAR.
