Since March 21, 2024, Libya has officially offered an electronic visa system to facilitate the procedures for international travelers wishing to visit, live or work in the country. This is the culmination of a multi-year project to boost the flow of people into the country.
A day earlier, the Libyan government announced the good news on Facebook: "The e-visa for foreigners was launched at the Cabinet Office in the presence of the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, the Minister of Labor and Qualification, responsible for managing the tasks of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Secretary General of the Intelligence Service, the Chairman of the General Communications Authority, the Head of Passports and Citizenship, the Government Spokesman and a number of officials from the departments concerned.
The Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs has confirmed the possibility of applying for an e-visa for foreigners from tomorrow Thursday, praising the efforts and cooperation of the Holding Communications Company, the Passport and Nationality Interest Department and the General Information Authority in launching this first e-service of its kind in Libya.”
Expatriate workers in Libya will also be able to use the platform for work-related visas from May 1.
The Libyan e-visa process
To obtain an electronic visa for Libya, applicants must create an account on the official website dedicated to this procedure: evisa.gov.ly. They must provide the following information :
- Personal information Surname, first name, father's name, mother's name, grandfather's name, gender, nationality, marital status, qualifications, profession, telephone number and e-mail address.
- Birth information date of birth, country of birth and city of birth.
- Address country of residence, city of residence and full address.
- Passport data Passport number, type of passport, issuing country, date of issue and expiry date.
- Travel information The sponsor's name, the sponsor's e-mail address, the sponsor's telephone number and the sponsor's address.
- Visa information Please include: type of visa, visa start date, visa end date and number of entries.
Once this information has been completed, applicants must also upload a copy of their passport as well as a passport photo.
Nationalities eligible for Libyan e-visa
The electronic visa system introduced by Libya is intended for all travelers requiring a visa, in order to eliminate burocracy, the scourge of countries undergoing reconstruction.
Practically all nationalities must use this platform to enter, including Europeans, Americans, Canadians and English. Only Algériens🇩🇿, Tunisiens🇹🇳, Mauritaniens🇲🇷, Béninois🇧🇯 and Malaisiens🇲🇾 do not require a visa. The same applies to Egyptians and Turks, subject to age. Israelis, Sudanese, Syrians, Yemenis, Pakistanis, Palestinians, Bangladeshis and Syrians are banned from entering the country.
Cost of Libyan electronic visa
The price of an electronic visa for Libya depends on the number of entries required:
- 63 $ USD (61 €) for a valid single-entry e-Visa 30 days
- 208 $ USD (202 €) for a valid multiple-entry e-Visa 90 days
Count up to one week to get the authorities' response.

The borders with Chad, Niger, Sudan and Algeria are closed because they are uncontrolled.
