Spain: health form no longer compulsory

The Spanish authorities have announced that foreign travelers are no longer required to fill in or present the health control form on arrival.

The news was announced by the Spanish Ministry of Health, and the decision officially came into force on September 20.

From Tuesday, September 20, 2022, the Spain Travel Health portal, both the website and mobile applications, will no longer be operational. It will no longer be necessary to fill in the health check form to travel to Spain, nor to present the QR code at the arrival airport."says the Ministry of Health's press release.

Previously, the sanitary inspection form, which indicated whether a traveler had been vaccinated, cured or tested negative for COVID and included other additional information, had to be completed online before arriving in Spain by all travelers who did not hold an EU COVID digital certificate, as well as by those who did not hold an EU-approved certificate.

Once in Spain, travelers had to present the document to the airport or seaport authorities to be allowed into the country. However, the Spanish authorities have concluded that such a measure is no longer necessary to control the spread of COVID-19 in a more favorable context. This means that all travelers, whatever their country of origin, no longer need to fill in the form.

Although Spain has abolished the obligation to fill in the health check form, the authorities have just extended until November 15 the obligation to present a vaccination, recovery or test certificate on arrival (without the health form, therefore).

During their stay in Spain, travellers are also required to wear a face mask on planes and trains. However, there is no such obligation when visiting public places.
