It took almost 26 years ! In 1997, Cameroon was one of the first countries to consider the introduction of electronic visas as a means of streamlining visitor flows and boosting administrative efficiency.
Its president, Paul Biya, had so far not issued any implementing decree relating to this law nยฐ97/012 of january 10, 1997. As of March 2, 2023, this is now a reality. Its implementation, initially scheduled for summer 2022should not be long in coming.
The announced validities are as follows:
- transit visa: 5 days
- short-stay visa: 6 months
- long-stay visa: 12 months
Visitor visas cannot be converted, and will not allow work on site. Cameroon undertakes to process applications in 3 daysor even one day as part of a express visa. A visa will be affixed to the passport on arrival on presentation of the online pre-enrolment form.
Here is the definition ofE-enrolment"planned : dematerialized enrolment service via access to a dedicated website which enables applicants, regardless of their geographical location or the place where the visa is to be issued in secure form, to submit their application to the consular services by entering their personal details, together with all the necessary supporting documents and payment of the set fee.
In this decree, the President also laid down the conditions for the application of other procedures relating to foreign workers and resident foreigners, the issue of residence or refugee permits, repatriation, exit visas and family reunification.
Until now, submitting a visa application for Cameroon required a trip to the nearest consulate to check documents. Delays, waiting, nothing gave a good image of this magnificent African country.
