After traveling the 4 corners of the world as a couple, Christophe and Sandrine decided to set off on an adventure with their children. The happy family of backpackers shares their stories on their blog ChrissandVoyage.
In this interview, you'll find out how Christophe and Sandrine see their future travel habits:
What has changed for you over the past year?
This year 2020 has been really special for everyone with this health context. We had to quickly manage a new way of life with telecommuting, home schooling for the children and the cancellation of our travel plans. The children adapted much better than we did, even if they were very disappointed not to travel during the vacations.
How did you keep your blog going during this period? diversification of topics? posts from past trips?
In this particular context, the world of travel blogging has been strongly impacted. Many had to "reinvent" themselves, changing their habits to stay active even without traveling. This was the case for us, and we took advantage of the opportunity to learn about different communications media, update old travel articles, make technical corrections to the blog and also train people who wanted to start blogging. In the end, it was an intense year, and we were still able to enjoy the sun and beaches during the summer. A pleasure to be able to take a breather during the vacations, despite the restrictions.
How do you see tourism recovering in the months/years ahead?
This health crisis has made us think a lot about our future and the future of tourism in general. This dramatic situation is not insignificant, and is merely a reflection of our current consumption patterns. If we don't change things, we'll have other catastrophic episodes in the future, whether in terms of health or the environment. It's with this in mind that we're trying to change our consumption and travel habits. We're going to give priority to "eco-responsible" destinations like Costa Rica, and take a more "slow travel" approach.
Do you plan to return to the adventure once the situation has calmed down? If so, could you tell us more about it? (We promise we won't follow you.... Whatever!)
Yes, we do miss travelling, and we're waiting for the situation to improve so that we can get back on the road with our families, while remaining cautious about our choice of destinations and avoiding for the time being countries that are too coveted by mass tourism.
A destination you'd like to discover?
At the moment, we're dreaming of wide-open spaces like Mongolia.
