There White House announced that the vaccination requirement for entry into the United States will be lifted on May 11.
This decision corresponds to the end of the state of health emergency declared in January 2020. Foreign travelers will no longer be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to enter the U.S.. This vaccination requirement had been extended and was still in force.
The United States was one of the countries hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, with over a million deaths. Measures taken to contain the pandemic, including compulsory vaccination, gave rise to fierce political debate.
Rules for entering the USA before May 11, 2023
Until then, unvaccinated foreign travelers were required to quarantine themselves for 5 days on arrival and undergo a viral test 3 to 5 days later, unless they produced a certificate of recovery or a vaccination exemption document before boarding.
It remains to be seen whether travelers will still be strongly encouraged (and not obliged) to take a test 3 to 5 days after arrival, regardless of their state of health. Please note that the rules may differ from state to state!
