We helped travellers obtain the new ETA Kenya: our impressions

After a few days of uncertainty and delayKenya's Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system is finally up and running. This change offers a general exemption from entry visas for all travelers to this East African country. As of January 5, it is now possible to apply for an ETA before departure to enter Kenya without a visa.

What is ETA Kenya and how does it work?

Following the presidential directive announcing that Kenya would become a visa-free country from January 2024, a digital platform has been created to identify all travelers before they arrive there. This platform enables Kenyan authorities to receive and process electronic travel authorization requests.

1. Travelers must complete an online form and pay the associated fees;
2. They receive an ETA containing important information about their identity and length of stay;
3. They can enter Kenya with this valid ETA.

It is important to note that obtaining an ETA does not automatically guarantee entry into Kenya.. Travelers must also have a valid passport to present upon arrival.

Over the years, we have helped many travelers with their administrative formalities and travel arrangements. The introduction of this new digital tool facilitating visa exemption for entry into Kenya represents a big change for international tourists eager to discover this magnificent country.

• We detected numerous bugs when sending documents online or making payment
• The authorities do not propose (still ?) their premium offer for faster processing and a single point of contact
• The form is strongly marked "arrival by air"But you can also make the request during a stopover. As with our customers, send your proof of sea transit as you would with airline tickets.

As with any new digital tool, there are always adjustments and improvements to be made. However, initial feedback from the travelers we've helped has been overwhelmingly positive, underlining the usefulness of our system in facilitating travel to Kenya.

Kenya's ETA: what information does it contain?

Once the ETA application has been made and the associated fees paid, the Kenyan authorities send applicants an electronic authorization containing several items of information about their identity and the conditions of their stay: thea photo of the traveler, a QR code, the ETA reference number, the traveler's first and last name, the traveler's date of birth, the traveler's passport number, the traveler's nationality, the ETA validity start date, the ETA validity end date, the number of authorized entries, the authorized length of stay.

The visa is also laid out in such a way that the traveller can fold it in four.. From memory, Kenya is one of the first countries to offer this.
