Schengen visas soon available to travellers in Bulgaria and Romania
Foreign nationals wishing to visit Bulgaria or Romania for short stays can apply for Schengen C visas. This invaluable pass will facilitate travel between these countries and the other members of the group. Travelers will be able to take advantage of unprecedented opportunities for cultural exchanges, economic partnerships and tourist discoveries.
Easy access to airports and seaports
Thanks to the partial adoption of Schengen territory regulations, Bulgaria and Romania have abolished border controls at airports and seaports from March 2024.. This measure now allows hassle-free entry and exit for individuals and companies.
Land border controls still pending
The decision to lift land border controls is still under discussion, and should be definitively adopted later this year. This additional step will further strengthen free movement by air and sea.
A collaborative success after years of effort
The partial integration of the two countries follows several years of cooperation and preparation for full compliance with Schengen standards. The Bulgarian and Romanian governments are committed to implementing measures to strengthen their fight against illegal immigration, border controls and the integration of the Schengen information system.
The 2 countries thus join the ranks of the 26 other countries that already belong to one of the world's largest areas of free movement, bringing together almost 450 million citizens and visitors.
