China: Visa exemption for Swiss citizens

China has announced a policy ofvisa exemption for swiss citizensThe new agreement strengthens diplomatic ties between the two countries. Switzerland now joins a select group of European nations enjoying visa-free access to China.

Since 2010, China has been an important trading partner for Switzerland, and is currently ranked as its most important trading partner. 3rd largest trading partner worldwideafter the European Union and the United States.

The Swiss government has referred to discussions concerning the inclusion of Switzerland on the list of countries whose residents can benefit from visa-free entry into China for up to 15 days.

Although specific details were not provided, China's Xinhua news agency reported that China has agreed to unilaterally implement a visa-free policy for Swiss citizens. In return, Switzerland has pledged to facilitate visas for Chinese citizens and companies investing in the country.

China's National Immigration Administration has introduced four significant measuresThe new regulations, effective January 11, 2024, simplify entry procedures for foreign nationals visiting China for business, study or tourism purposes.

Other countries benefiting from Chinese visa exemption

This move follows on from China's earlier decision to grant visa-free access for passport holders from France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Malaysia from December 1, 2023. Under this visa-free treatment, tourists from these countries are allowed to visit China for a maximum of 15 days, until the end of 2024. Visit Belgium could soon follow.
