Thailand is set to modernize its immigration process with the introduction of a mandatory online TM6 form for all foreign visitors from May 1. An online form to replace paper
The TM6 form, traditionally completed on paper, had been temporarily suspended on April 15, 2024.
From May 1, 2025, a digital version of this form will permanently replace the old paper version. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has announced that this transition is part of a commitment to better track tourists during their stay in Thailand, and increase confidence in their safety.
Natthriya Thaweevong, the Ministry's Permanent Secretary, emphasized that this online system will improve the monitoring of tourists.
How will it work?
The online TM6 form will be mandatory for all foreign arrivals, whether by air, land or sea.
It will be accessible free of charge and must be completed before arrival in Thailand via a website which has not yet been communicated by the authorities.
The Thai government has indicated that the priority is to implement this digital system to avoid confusion for tourists. Meetings are planned with stakeholders, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, airlines and travel agencies, to familiarize them with the new process.

Concerns and criticisms
While some see the online TM6 form as a modernization and security tool, others are concerned. Some Internet users point out that This system could require tourists to have a cell phone with Internet access, which could be problematic for some.
Others fear for the security of their personal data when using public wifi in a foreign country. Finally, some believe that TM6 doesn't really enhance the tourist experience. Despite these criticisms, the Thai government stands by its claim that the system will improve tourist tracking, increase security and streamline the visitor experience. The authorities have also indicated that the TM6 digital is the priority before any other control measures.
