France digitizes visa application process for Moroccan travelers

France is set to modernize consular procedures for Moroccan citizens. In 2026, the era of manual stamps and paper vignettes will come to an end for Moroccan travelers, in favor of a digital and biometric 100% system.

European border crossings should be facilitated by digital procedures and biometric devices. If you are a Moroccan citizen planning a trip to France - whether for business, study or tourism - the rules for obtaining a Schengen visa are changing considerably. As part of its commitment to streamlining exchanges while reinforcing security, France is deploying the digital development of the Schengen visa, The aim is to dematerialize the entire visa application process.

Abolition of the paper visa sticker

Historically, obtaining a Schengen visa involved long queues at processing centers and the affixing of a physical sticker in the passport. This process is now set to disappear.
The digital transition initiated by the French authorities will enable applicants to :

  • Submit their application entirely online via a secure centralized platform.
  • Monitor progress of their request in real time.
  • Receive an electronic visa (e-Visa) to replace the traditional visa stamp.

The advantage? Fewer trips to the consulate and significantly faster processing times - a major step forward in response to recurring criticism of waiting times.

EES system: Biometric border control from April 2026

The dematerialization of visas is accompanied by an overhaul of controls at entry points (airports, ports, international stations). The traditional system for checking passports at borders will be officially replaced by the new digital input/output system (EES), which is scheduled to be deployed by April 10, 2026. This device has been in force since October 12, 2025, and is currently being developed by the European countries that will be using it in the near future.

Input-output system (EES)

In concrete terms, when you arrive in France :
You will be required to submit to fingerprinting.
Facial or iris recognition will be performed.
The system will automatically record the date and place of your entry, calculating with infallible precision the length of your authorized stay (90-day rule over a 180-day period).

The good news of this reform concerns the flexibility granted to certain profiles. As part of the strengthening of the Franco-Moroccan strategic partnership, Paris has decided to make the granting of long-term visas more flexible for the following categories:
Professionals and business people.
Students.
Regular travelers who have already obtained Schengen visas.
These travellers can more easily benefit from multiple-entry visas (VCS) with extended validity periods (from 1 to 5 years). Please note, however, that fundamental sovereign criteria - such as proof of sufficient income and subscription to an insurance policy - remain unchanged. valid travel health insurance - remain mandatory prerequisites.

Morocco: world's 2nd largest recipient of French visas

According to recent statements by Olivier Ramadour, Consul General of France in Rabat, travel between the two nations is historic. In 2025, French consular services granted over 300,000 Schengen visas to Moroccan travelers, with an increase of around 20 % compared with 2024. This dynamic makes Morocco the second-largest recipient of French visas, ahead of India and behind China.

And for other travelers? Don't forget the ETIAS

It's important to remember that by the end of 2026, the ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) will come into force. This system will apply to travelers from visa-exempt (such as the United States, Canada or the United Arab Emirates), who will be required to obtain a fee-paying electronic authorization before embarking for Europe.
