Official launch of e-Visa for Ghana

Ghana has redefined its entry requirements. The government, at the instigation of the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has officially launched its national electronic visa portal (e-Visa).

While this digitization greatly simplifies the process for travelers around the world, a major political decision accompanies this launch: the abolition of visa fees for all African passport holders.

Easy entry into Ghana

Until now, obtaining a visa for Ghana has been a complex process for many international travelers, especially those who live far from a consular representation. The new e-Visa system greatly simplifies formalities and eliminates physical barriers.

The procedure is now 100 % dematerialized. The platform enables nationals of non-exempt countries to submit their documents, pay consular fees and receive their travel authorization directly by email, prior to boarding. Most international travellers are eligible e-Visa application. ECOWAS nationals are exempt. from visa requirements and can enter the country without a visa for a stay of up to 90 days

Accra's objective is clear: modernize its reception facilities and establish itself as a key tourist and commercial hub in West Africa.

African travellers: Total exemption from fees

To actively support Continental African Free Trade Area (CAFTA), Ghana has decided to exempt African citizens from visa fees.

๐Ÿ’ก Things to remember:
The exemption applies to fees visa. African travelers will still have to register via the digital portal for reasons of security and traceability at the borders, but the amount to be paid at the end of the procedure will be zero.

This opening of borders is a boon for intra-African trade, facilitating the mobility of entrepreneurs, investors and tourists from one end of the continent to the other.

Practical Guide: Obtaining your Ghana e-Visa

For our international customers, electronic visas are becoming the norm. Here's how to approach this new, stress-free procedure.

1. Essential documents to digitize
Before starting your online entry, please make sure you have legible scans of the following documents (PDF or JPEG format according to portal specifications):
-Valid passport : valid for at least 6 months after the planned return date, with at least two blank pages.
-Recent passport photo :
to biometric standards, on a neutral background.
-Proof of accommodation :
confirmed hotel reservation or legalized letter of invitation from a host in Ghana.
-Air ticket :
copy of round-trip itinerary.
-International Certificate of Vaccination :
the vaccine against yellow fever is strictly mandatory to enter Ghana.

2. Processing times
Although the system is automated and normal processing yields around 4 days, We recommend that you submit your request minimum 7 to 10 working days before you travel. Holiday periods (such as โ€œDetty Decemberโ€ or the โ€œYear of Returnโ€ festival) generate significant peaks in demand.

3. Pricing (excluding African passports)
Government fees remain applicable for non-African travelers. They generally vary from depending on the type of visa requested (tourism, business, transit) and its duration (single or multiple entries). Payment is made securely online. Consular fees are set at minimum charge of USD 260.
